JOE BENINATI

Joe Beninati is heading into his seventh summer detailing the play-by-play for the nationally televised Major League Lacrosse Game of the Week on ESPN2. In addition to his work at the professional level, CBS College Sports, formerly known as College Sports Television (CSTV), added Joe to its play-by-play lineup for men’s and women’s lacrosse in 2005, when he voiced the regular season and four national championship games. He worked behind the microphone for CSTV on men’s and women’s soccer, men’s ice hockey and basketball, and Women’s World Championship ice hockey.
 
Beninati is currently enjoying his 13th season of TV play-by-play in the National Hockey League with the Washington Capitals as the lead voice for Comcast Sportsnet (CSN). Aside from his hockey work in the nation’s capital, this season is his third describing the action for the NHL’s national television package on Versus (VS). In past years, he has freelanced with ESPN, NHL Radio, and WFAN-New York broadcasts during the regular season, Stanley Cup Playoffs, and World Cup of Hockey. In 2002 and 2006 he provided radio play-by-play for Westwood One coverage of the Olympic men’s hockey tournament in Salt Lake City and Torino. He has also called select men’s college hockey games on CSTV.
 
Joe graduated to the NHL in 1994 after five seasons of Radio/TV play-by-play in the American Hockey League with stops in Portland, Maine and Providence, Rhode Island. Prior to joining the professional ranks he was sports information director for two years at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.
 
A four-time Capital Region Emmy Award winner for excellence in composite play-by-play, Joe has delivered numerous ACC and CAA college events for Comcast Sportsnet, covering seven different sports.  In previous years, he has filled-in as a TV play-by-play man for Baltimore Orioles baseball on CSN.
 
On the gridiron, Beninati is heading into his second season at the mic’ for Versus and its TV coverage of Mountain West Conference football. His past football credits include Maryland, Navy, CAA, and select Div 1-AA games on CSN and CN-8. Since 1999, Joe has freelanced as a national radio play-by-play voice for major college football on Westwood One.
 
His resume includes two seasons of radio play-by-play with the Washington Mystics of the WNBA and fill-in radio work with the Washington Wizards in the NBA.
